Spam filters are any founder or sales manager’s nightmare.

You want to make sure that your prospect received your email, and opened it.

The problem is that if you get marked as spam by too many prospects, spam filters will start ruining your life.

So what can you do about it?

1) Buy a different email domain for your outreach email.

Is your website newapp.com? So buy and use trynewapp.com as an outreach domain. And have that outreach domain redirect to your actual website. It won’t cost you much, and it’ll be helpful in case your sender reputation worsens: your main domain name will stay intact.

2) Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records.

SPF makes you specify the legitimate email servers for your domain. DKIM allows you to attach a DomainKey signature to your outgoing mail. The receiving server then verifies the validity of the key and either accepts or rejects the mail. DMARC is designed to give email domain owners the ability to protect their domain from spoofing.

3) Start warming up your IP before you start emailing

To manually warm up your IP, you need to gradually send more and more emails over your IP address at the rate below:

A great way to strengthen your sender reputation is by sending multiple emails to people that you know, have them mark the email as important, have them respond to you, and you respond back to them. Sounds like a lot of effort, right?

Fortunately, there are many automated email warmup tools like Mailwarm, Mailreach, Warmup Inbox. Gmass has also released their free email warmup tool too. Those tools will interact automatically with multiple accounts per day and make your domain look pristine.

Wait a week before starting to do your outreach, and you should be set!

4) Minimize HTML and links in your emails, and ideally deactivate link tracking

Link trackers can kill your open-rates - ideally, try to avoid them. Keep your email to one link, and minimize images. Having too many images can get your email automatically classified as a promotion, which would hurt your open rate.

5) Try to make the content of your email sound as personal as possible

In fact, write your email as if you were going to send it to only one person. Then, insert your variable fields, and automate it. If your email doesn’t sound too generic, it can avoid getting caught by spam filters.

Make sure you’ve followed all the steps above, and you’ll thank us later. Happy hunting!
