Yes, I know it is very enticing to chose a Free VPN over a Paid one. I myself have a habit of looking for ways to get out of paying for Online Services as well. However this is one thing you don’t want to skimp on. The reason being is that you need to be able to trust your VPN Provider. When you use a free service there is no value in trust between you. Essentially when you pay for a VPN Service you aren't buying the underlying network of Servers and their encryption. You are buying their trust that they will keep all of your information private and safe.
So what is the difference? Why should I pay for something that some offer for free? Well like I said, the big number one reason is you have no way of trusting them. While there are legitimate Free VPN Providers out there. You could easily be downloading a virus or connecting to a malicious VPN of some sort. Most Free VPN Providers will usually log your Internet Usage. Such as what sites you visit and what you do while you’re on those sites. However there are some that will even sell your personal Information on the black market such as email address, name, telephone number, credit card, etc.. pretty much anything that you do on the Internet is up for grabs.
Another bad quality of these Free VPN Providers is that they will push ad’s onto the sites you visit. While this on it’s own isn't a terrible thing to most people. The big problem with this is you can’t trust most of the ad’s they push. The reason being is a common trait among free services online is they will use pay per view ad services. These services are the same that Hackers will typically use to push out viruses. So, while the VPN might be protecting you and doing it’s job. The Ad’s that they give you might be harmful to your computer.
Remember we want a VPN Provider for Privacy and Security means and you simply can’t assure you will have that with a Free Service. While I myself like to find free ways of getting stuff. I personally recommend paying for a VPN Service and Highly advise against using a free one. Simply because there is no way of knowing what you will be getting.
