On What Makes A Worthwhile Panel Discussion

Recently, I have been on the road speaking at conferences such as the Startengine Summit, at a Fireside Chat at Commerce Ventures and hosting my own meetup during SF Blockchain Week.

Many panels do not have enough time to dive deep into the bare meat and bones of the topic and only touch upon surface-level points. During any discussion, the most informative panels, in my opinion, have been those that do not shy away from a little conflict between various panel members who are asked to defend their assumptions and positions.

We have had various panels with only C-suite executives of well-known companies to panels with Product and Marketing Managers. The panels that are Product or Marketing heavy can be just as informative as panels with CEO’s, because they can present the same company and industry with a different perspective. I’ve especially enjoyed moderating panels where the Marketing team is there because they can offer insight into the day-to-day challenges of how to expand upon difficult concepts in blockchain in a more layman manner and understand the challenges of growing awareness in an industry while being sure to hammer upon the key differentiating and positioning factors in the space.

Overall, as the Organizer of the SF Security Token and NYC Security Token Meetup, I seek to create dialogue and panels that will leave those that attend with a very unique point of view through the interplay of ideas that cannot be found on a blog, YouTube channel, or a website.
