TLDRvia the TL;DR App

I love tech companies — you know what I love more than tech companies? Google. You’re probably thinking, well duh, Google is a tech company. Yes…that is sufficient for most people. I believe Google is a movement, Google is a movement into the future. Google makes products that elicit responses of “Wow!” and “Whoa!” and “Can it really do that?” — and another one of those products is going to be revealed on October 4th.

They’ve told us what they are announcing. It’s going to be a phone. The new phone will likely be called something like “Pixel 2” and or “Pixel 2 XL.” Twitter is actively calling the event to attention:

As you can see above and to the left of this text, here are some tweets from some well-followed tech publications and personalities. It’s a big deal.

The original Pixel had a great camera, and intelligent voice assistant, and unique next-iteration Android software.

What I expect from the new device: A better camera, a more intelligent voice assistant, and the ever present next-iteration of Android from Google.

What Google is highlighting: Better battery life, more durability, and voice recognition.

What we’ll probably get from the new device: A more intelligent voice assistant, a better camera, more durability, and whatever this “Voice recognition” feature is. Wait a minute… “voice recognition,” does that mean Google created a way to unlock your smartphone using your voice? Is that even secure though? Could a recording of your voice get past the lock screen? I suppose it’s no different than facial recognition, where it might be possible to show a picture of someone’s face to the sensor— and make it unlock. All that aside, it sounds exciting! Here’s a quick look at their awesome teaser video:
