This story is a part of Hacker Noon's Meet the Writer series of interviews. The series is intended for tech professionals contributing the most insightful Hacker Noon stories to share more about their writing habits, ideas, and professional background (and maybe a hobby or two). If you too would like to start contributing to Hacker Noon, you can do so here.

So let’s start! Tell us a bit about yourself. For example, name, profession, and personal interests.

Hi everyone! My name is Bart Hillerich and I’m a recent college graduate of Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business where I majored in Finance and Real Estate. I’m currently working as a corporate real estate analyst and devoting pretty much all of my free time to the cryptocurrency space, which I got into in 2017. I’m a dedicated cryptocurrency and NFT investor focused on finding, and selecting micro-cap projects and high potential NFTs.

Interesting! What was your latest Hackernoon Top story about?

My latest Hackernoon post was a part of the metaverse writing competition that is a collaboration between Hackernoon and Sandbox! I discussed where I see the metaverse space going, and how it connects to the current state of the cryptocurrency industry.

Do you usually write on similar topics? If not, what do you usually write about?

My “The Metaverse Endgame” was the very first article I’ve published so I don’t have a body of work to draw comparisons; however, I do plan on continuing to write and focusing on cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and the metaverse.

Great! What is your usual writing routine like (if you have one?)

I have not established a writing routine yet but I’m hoping to get myself on some kind of schedule. Whether that’s an article every week or every two, I’m not sure yet, but I’ll establish something and do my best to stick to it!

Being a writer in tech can be a challenge. It’s not often our main role, but an addition to another one. What is the biggest challenge you have when it comes to writing?

I think the biggest challenge is overcoming the inertia of actually submitting for publishing consideration. It’s easy to have thoughts like “Why would anyone care about my thoughts and what I have to say?” I think that for me, and many others with writing capabilities, taking the leap of faith to go for it is the most difficult part of this.

What is the next thing you hope to achieve in your career?

I want to continue to build a personal brand within the cryptocurrency space through writing, Twitter, and eventually Twitch/YouTube and a podcast. I want to grow steadily in every way that I can within this space, but I think the next “real” tangible achievement for me would be 1,000 followers on Twitter.

Wow, that’s admirable. Now, something more casual: What is your guilty pleasure of choice?

I absolutely love Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! My favorite flavors are Milk & Cookies and Half Baked.

Do you have a non-tech-related hobby? If yes, what is it?

I’ve been really big into personal fitness for years at this point. I lift weights 6 days a week, run, and get into whatever other fun stuff I can. I view fitness as the foundation to a successful and happy life so it’s something that I take pretty seriously.

What can the Hacker Noon community expect to read from you next?

I’m looking to continue to provide quality content that is well-researched and thoughtful. You’re not going to get wild claims and hyperbole from me, I genuinely care about providing value to everyone who reads my pieces on Hackernoon and follows me on Twitter.

Thanks for taking the time to join our “Meet the writer” series. It was a pleasure. Do you have any closing words?

I’m beyond thrilled with the positive reception that my first article received on this site. I definitely didn’t expect to receive any of the recognition that I did. I’m extremely excited to continue this journey with all of you and keep growing!
