Despite what feels like years of begging from fans, Smash Bros. Ultimate will not include Waluigi as a playable character.
In December 2021 the final character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s opulent roster was announced. For many fans, this was a moment of dismay, as Sora from Kingdom Hearts took the proverbial rug out from under another oft-requested character: Waluigi.
The crazed counterpart to the already odd Luigi has been beloved since his first appearance in Mario Tennis back in 2000. Waluigi memes in respect, have budded into their own brambly garden of brooding exilism, misunderstandings and questionably overt sexuality. In theory this popularity would lead to a Smash Bros. appearance. However, other than a lowly assist trophy, any hopes of including Waluigi have been officially crushed.
I understand. It’s heartbreaking to miss out on the potential to see one of the Mario Universe’s most bombastic and yet still enigmatic characters in the most comprehensive Nintendo fighting roster known to man…89 playable characters in all…
At least fans have an equally extensive Waluigi meme list to drown their sorrows in.

We’ll just have to hope for another 100 roster Smash Bros. Ultimate 2 in the unlikely and very distant future. Or, another Mario-themed fighting game where Waluigi gets his just desserts.
Until then, I’ll settle for a chuckle over a Waluigi meme or two to cope.
