Hey Hackers! I’m Rushikesh Mhetre and I’m the Lead Product Developer @ CloudCover.

First of all, a huge thank you to the HackerNoon community and staff for nominating me for a 2021 Noonies award! I’ve been nominated in the following categories please do check out these award pages and vote:

  1. HackerNoon Contributor of the year - MongoDB: https://noonies.tech/award/2021-hackernoon-contributor-of-the-year-mongodb

As someone in the Software industry, I believe that the most exciting technology right now is VueJS because of its ecosystem. Learn more about my thoughts and opinions on VueJS and my journey in the tech industry via the interview below.

1. What do you do and why do you do it? (tell us your story)

I have worked as a Software Developer for around 8 years now! and I love it :)

Every now and then I learn something new, it could be a small thing like a smarter way to write a simple loop to a new programming language altogether! This helps me have my goals set clearly which in turn helps my career to grow in the right direction ( very important! ). I have worked mostly as a Front-end developer, but I do have good skills & experience in the backend tech stack as well.

The main reason I like what I do is that in the Software industry, there are constantly new things coming up! New languages, tools, new ideas, innovation! and you get to learn so much from them. After all, you have to keep going somewhere? Why not the path you love right?

2. Tell us more about the things you create / write / manage / build!

Being a lead product developer, I design the Front-end architecture, own features, manage dependencies with UI/UX teams, Back-end teams & product owners. A day in my life would be planning my tasks, discussions with teammates regarding some idea or features. Then, I decide what the top priorities are and work on implementing them with the best possible quality. Currently, I am working on the Frontend of Vue2 - TS.

3. How did you end up on your current career path? Do you like it?

Well, my work on web-based games, websites & web apps at the start of my career brought me to my current career path. Since then I’ve never looked back! and yes I am happy and I like it :)

4. What tech are you most excited or passionate about right now and why?

Currently, I am most excited about VueJs & its ecosystem. I’ve been working with it for the past 3 plus years, and my interest in it has always kept growing! They recently released Vue3 which is super awesome! and with the es-build, it’s freakishly fast. It’s amazing! I am exploring that these days.

Apart from Vue, I am also passionate about the general frontend eco-system, its supporting tools, and libraries which help build the applications with the best quality.

5. What tech are you most worried about right now and why?

To be honest I am not “worried“ for any tech as they keep evolving. But yes, there’s definitely a possibility that some other programming language or a new tech will be chosen for being much better than the existing one. It could easily take that tech out of the market. ( Except legacy code! They love old tech :D )

6. If we gave you 10 million dollars to invest in something today, what would you invest in and why?

Wow! if I do get 10 million dollars to invest, I will invest it into revolutionary ideas that can change the way we look at things or change the way we do things and would eventually make the world a better place.

7. What are you currently learning?

I am currently learning multiple things - Electron JS with Vue, Cypress e2e testing, Quasar framework & Vue3

8. What’s the best advice you’ve ever given someone?

Invest the first couple of years in your skillsets, try, learn & understand the basics of things, how they work and why they work the way they work instead of just expecting monetary gains. This will take you to longer & more amazing journeys instead of short & unhappy ones.

9. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Try to focus on one or two things at a time and be an expert in those. Then, move on to learning new things. This way you will have a strong foundation in your skillsets.
