The new Web3 domain is .ART. And it’s also a Web2 domain.

It incorporates all the functionality of ENS, but with the benefits of traditional domains.

It’s currently the only domain that does both.

a thread 🧵

ENS (.eth) is the original Web3 domain provider. It’s a decentralized service know for simplifying ETH addresses where you can send ETH to someone using a name (like Calzone.eth) opposed to a long string of letters and number (0xWhoWantsToDoThis1234)

ETH domains are extremely popular in Web3 and on Twitter. They have a cult like following, and even have a PFP collection dedicated to ENS

The issue with .eth domains is that no web browsers recognize them, so you can’t create websites on them. This is how .art is different.

.art is a traditional Web2 domain. You can even register these domains at places like GoDaddy. As they’re “normal” domains, it extremely easy to build and host websites on them.

Currently .art is leveraging ENS to become fully functional and tradable on the blockchain. Those with traditional .art domains can bridge them to Ethereum starting next week.

.art domains also allow for some domains that aren’t available on .eth. You can register single letter, number and emoji domains on .art.

In conclusion, .art domains offer the all the functionality of ENS but also the ability to create secure SSL websites as they’re traditional ICANN domains.
