TLDRvia the TL;DR App

I have been writing on a blog post about Quora for Content Distribution/Promotion the last few days. Before publishing it, I want to tell you what Quora can be used for in a couple of paragraphs.

In this series I’ll validate a new idea. Read about the concept here (Day 0) and the idea here (Day 1).

Basic guidelines

  • As with everything in Content Marketing, provide real value
  • Play it long term

I won’t explain Content Marketing here, but I want to say that it becomes more and more important to focus on distributing content. One way to do that is by answering questions on Quora. The main benefit is that people are actively looking for answers which you can provide. That means that it’s not about being pushy. Don’t be that shady marketer everyone hates. Provide real value. You could for example just include a link with more help (eg your content) at the end of your answer.

Don’t sell, answer the question

Quora is definitely a good tool for market research. When you stay on top of the questions on your topics, you will know what people want. You can also go the other direction and search for questions that you already have the answer to.

That begins with finding a question. Find Better Questions is a tool to, you guessed it, find better questions. Quora doesn’t provide you with much more than a search bar. You basically have to look at a bunch of questions, look at their stats (and obviously the question itself) and then filter out the ones worth answering. That can take as much time as writing your actual answer, sometimes even longer.

There are people who use Quora to promote themselves, boost authority, or just help other people, so they answer every second question they view. But if you’re a content marketer you might go a path that’s a bit more stats driven. I also have to tell you that this isn’t magic and every answer will get millions of views. It just automates what you’d normally have to do manually, or, if you wouldn’t have done it, increases the changes of success to some degree, maybe even 1000%, but that could just mean that you get 3000 views instead of 3.
