Most of you have heard the term info-tainment. This is what passes as news nowadays. The goal of the news agencies is to keep us on the edge of hysteria all the time. Add to this that most news agencies globally are owned by a very limited number of corporations, and then you get a situation where, what should be news, is actually a game of smoke and mirrors, or disinformation, or outright lies.
But, netizens, what if we could change the narrative? We could conceivably start a decentralized autonomous organization, where we could bring uncensored news.
Following the simple question: qui bono, or in plain English: who stands to gain. In other words, whenever something happens, or the focus of the 'normal' news in on one thing or other, we should ask ourselves, what are they trying to keep our attention away from. And of course, always, follow the money.
There would have to be some kind of peer consensus between contributors on what to actually publish. We wouldn't want our journalists to write about how aluminum protects you from spying from government agencies. And we would have to figure out how to establish such a consensus, but it could be done.
And we should of course reward our investigative reporters with an at least equitable remuneration. Which means that we would all have to chip in at least a small sum. But, tall numbers are what makes the world go round.
Furthermore, against every big 'Qui Bono' story, we could feature a number of DAO member stories, who are living through the consequences of the cause of any given piece of interest, a kind of interactive reporting, if you will. And we could invite our members to suggest topics for investigation. The possibilities are legion!
